Hand-Painted Porcelain

Painting on Porcelain — a Millennial Glaze, Expressed Today

Ceramic Hand-Painting · From Jingdezhen to the World

🧑‍🎨
Master Lin
30 years of craft
Jingdezhen → Shengfang

Master Lin was born into a porcelain-making family in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi. As a child he watched his grandfather by the kiln, waiting for the magical moment when the glaze revealed itself. At sixteen he formally began his apprenticeship — thirty years later, he still stands at the same painting table.

Five years ago Master Lin left Jingdezhen for Shengfang, Hebei, joining Vivova's artisan team. "Jingdezhen is the home of porcelain," he says, "but craft should not be confined to one place. I want young people far away to feel the warmth of Chinese porcelain too."

"Porcelain is alive," Master Lin often says. "The clay takes shape in your hands, the brush dances on the glaze, and the kiln fire completes the final miracle. A lifetime is not enough to learn it all."

Fine Woodwork

The Warmth of Wood — from Raw Timber to Zen

Fine Woodworking · Where Nature Meets Craftsmanship

Master Chen
20 years of craft
Shengfang, Hebei

Master Chen's workshop always smells of fresh wood shavings. Twenty years ago he was an ordinary woodworker on a furniture assembly line — until the day he picked up a discarded piece of old timber, its grain flowing like an ink landscape. That moment, he decided to live differently.

Since then, Master Chen has devoted himself to traditional joinery. He visited every old woodworking shop around Shengfang, learning mortise-and-tenon structure, grain direction, and the touch of hand sanding. "Every piece of wood has its own temper," he says. "Read it first — then start carving."

"Wood breathes," says Master Chen. "Everything I make — tea scoops, incense holders, bookmarks, paperweights — is not just an object but a continuation of nature. A good wooden piece will record, in its patina, all the time you spend together."

Olive Pit Carving

Worlds Within an Inch — the Infinite Possibilities of an Olive Pit

Olive Pit Carving · Infinite Worlds Within a Seed

🔮
Master Zhao
15 years of craft
Olive Pit Carving Heartland

Master Zhao's hands are covered with fine knife marks — the signature of fifteen years of pit carving. Trained originally as a sculptor, he chanced upon a Qing-dynasty carved arhat at an antique market; such expression within an inch made him apprentice himself on the spot.

Pit carving is judged "under the knife." An olive pit is no bigger than a thumb, yet it must hold a face, a landscape, the posture of birds and flowers. One wrong cut ruins everything — Master Zhao often spends ten-plus days on a single pit.

"One pit, one world," says Master Zhao. "On it you find the distance of mountains, the joys and sorrows of faces, the flutter of birds. Pit carving taught me one thing — greatness lies not in size, but in intention."
